The Ministry of Education and Culture, Cultural Services, are hosting a presentation of the Oo project, the joint participation of Cyprus and Lithuania in the last, 55th International Art Exhibition, (Venice Biennale, 1st June – 24 November 2013).
The presentation will take place at Dancehouse Lefkosia (Agora of Ayios Andreas, 25 Parthenonos Street, Ayios Andreas, Nicosia) on Wednesday, 22 October 2014, at 20:00, with guest speakers Raimundas Malašauskas, curator of Oo, and participating artist Gabriel Lester.
oO was an exhibition of two national pavilions, of Cyprus and Lithuania, developed by Malašauskas as a large-scale show featuring Cypriot and Lithuanian artists, as well as contributions by a number of international artists: Liudvikas Buklys, Gintaras Didžiapetris, Jason Dodge, Lia Haraki, Maria Hassabi, Phanos Kyriacou, Myriam Lefkowitz, Gabriel Lester, Elena Narbutaitė, Morten Norbye Halvorsen, Algirdas Šeškus, Dexter Sinister, Constantinos Taliotis, Kazys Varnelis, Natalie Yiaxi, Vytautė Žilinskaitė, and others.
The project was conceptualised as a sequencer, generating a succession of artistic events and appearances within and outside the exhibition space. It was housed in Palasport “Giobatta Gianquinto”, a 1970s modernist building at the Arsenale, operating as the Venice Municipal Sports Hall. During the awards ceremony on 1st June 2013, the International Commission of the Venice Biennale conferred a Special Mention to the project, for “an original curatorial format that brings together two countries in a singular experience”.
The presentation will be in English, with simultaneous Greek translation.
