BIOGRAPHIES

Marianna Christofides (b.1980, Nicosia, Cyprus) studied Visual and Media Arts at the Academy of Fine Arts, Athens and the Slade School of Fine Art, London. She then completed her Postgraduate Degree in Media Arts and Film at the Academy of Media Arts Cologne. In 2010 she received the Friedrich-Vordemberge Grant for Visual Arts by the City of Cologne. In 2009, Christofides represented Cyprus in the Biennial of Young Artists from Europe where she won the Resartis-Worldwide-Network-of-Artist-Residencies Award. In the same year she also received the 1st prize for Best Documentary in the 5th Cyprus Short Film and Documentary Festival, for her film Pathways in The Dust. A Topography out of Fragments (the film was screened in various venues in Germany, among others: Reel to Real, Family Affairs, Mousonturm, Frankfurt and Black Box Film Museum, Dusseldorf). Since 2005 she has received numerous scholarships and prizes, among which by the A.S. Onassis Foundation, the German Academic Exchange Service DAAD, the Michelis and the Eurobank Foundation and the National-Scholarship-Foundations of Greece and Cyprus.

Η Μαριάννα Χριστοφίδου (γεν. 1980, Λευκωσία) σπούδασε Εικαστικές Τέχνες στην Ανωτάτη Σχολή Καλών Τεχνών της Αθήνας και Media Arts στο Slade School of Fine Art του Λονδίνου. Στη συνέχεια ολοκλήρωσε μεταπτυχιακές σπουδές στα Νέα Μέσα και τον Κινηματογράφο στο Academy of Media Arts της Κολωνίας. Το 2010 έλαβε το 1ο Βραβείο νέων εικαστικών Κολωνίας, ενώ το 2009 εκπροσώπησε την Κύπρο στη Μπιενάλε Νέων Δημιουργών Ευρώπης στα Σκόπια, αποσπώντας το βραβείο Resartis του Διεθνούς Δικτύου Artist-Residencies. Κατά το ίδιο έτος έλαβε το Βραβείο Καλύτερου Ντοκιμαντέρ στο 5ο Φεστιβάλ Κυπριακών Ταινιών Μικρού Μήκους, για την ταινία Μονοπάτια στη Σκόνη. Μια Τοπογραφία από Θραύσματα (η ταινία προβλήθηκε σε διάφορους χώρους στην Κολωνία, μεταξύ άλλων: Reel to Real, Family Affairs, Mousonturm, Frankfurt και Black Box Film Museum, Dusseldorf). Από το 2005 έχει λάβει σειρά υποτροφιών και διακρίσεων μεταξύ άλλων από το Κοινωφελές Ίδρυμα Α.Σ. Ωνάση, τα Ιδρύματα Μιχελή και Eurobank, τη Γερμανική Υπηρεσία Ακαδημαϊκών Ανταλλαγών DAAD, καθώς και του ΙΚΥ Ελλάδος και Κύπρου.

Elizabeth Hoak-Doering (b.1966, Philadelphia, USA) holds a BA in Anthropology from Amherst College (USA), an MAed. and an MFA in Sculpture from Boston University. In 1996 she received a Fulbright Scholarship to study sculpture and archaeology in Cyprus and in 2000 she was a resident artist at the Monagri Foundation in Limassol. Her trans-disciplinary projects are realized in multiple formats: drawing, multimedia, sonic and kinetic installation and also published academic papers. While her work focuses on Cyprus, it also draws from her experience among the Navajo (2008), in Armenia (2001 and 2006), and with the Samburu of Kenya (1986-87).

Η Elizabeth Hoak-Doering (γεν. 1966, Φιλαδέλφεια) σπούδασε Ανθρωπολογία στο Amherst College των ΗΠΑ και ολοκλήρωσε μεταπτυχιακές σπουδές στο Boston University, στους κλάδους της Εκπαίδευσης και των Καλών Τεχνών, με ειδίκευση στη Γλυπτική. Το 1996 έλαβε υποτροφία από το Fulbright Commission για να μελετήσει γλυπτική και αρχαιολογία στην Κύπρο και το 2000 προσκλήθηκε στο Πρόγραμμα Φιλοξενίας Καλλιτεχνών στο Μονάγρι της Λεμεσού. Οι διεπιστημονικές της μελέτες λαμβάνουν διάφορες μορφές: σχέδιο, πολυμέσα, ηχητικές και κινητικές εγκαταστάσεις, καθώς και δημοσιεύσεις ακαδημαϊκών κειμένων. Ενώ επίκεντρο της δουλειάς της είναι η Κύπρος, αντλεί ταυτόχρονα από τις εμπειρίες της ανάμεσα στους Ινδιάνους Navajo (2008), στην Αρμενία (2001 και 2006), και τους Samburu στην Κένυα (1986-87).

Yiannis Toumazis (b.1960, Famagusta, Cyprus) studied Civil Engineering at the Metsovion National Polytechnic in Athens, Theatre Design at the Utrecht Fine Arts Academy and Art Theory and Aesthetics at University de Picardie Jules Verne in Amiens, where he also completed his PhD on the subject of Marcel Duchamp, Androgynous Artist. Since 1994 he is Director of the Nicosia Municipal Arts Centre and the Pierides Foundation. His activity includes the curating of over 65 exhibitions in Cyprus and abroad, the publishing of exhibition catalogues and critical texts, and theatre and museographical design. As of 2009 he is Lecturer at the School of Architecture, Fine and Applied Arts at Frederick University, Nicosia.

Ο Γιάννης Τουμαζής (γεν. 1960, Αμμόχωστος) σπούδασε Πολιτικός Μηχανικός στο Εθνικό Μετσόβειο Πολυτεχνείο, Σκηνογραφία στην Ακαδημία Καλών Τεχνών της Ουτρέχτης και Θεωρία της Τέχνης και Αισθητική στο Πανεπιστήμιο Picardie Jules Vernes, στην Αμιέν της Γαλλίας, όπου ολοκλήρωσε και τη διδακτορική του διατριβή με θέμα Μαρσέλ Ντυσάν, Ανδρόγυνος Καλλιτέχνης. Από το 1994 είναι Διευθυντής του Δημοτικού Κέντρου Τεχνών Λευκωσίας και του Ιδρύματος Πιερίδη. Η δραστηριότητά του περιλαμβάνει την επιμέλεια πέραν των 65 εκθέσεων στην Κύπρο και στο εξωτερικό, την έκδοση βιβλίων, καταλόγων και κριτικών κειμένων, τη σκηνογραφία και το μουσειολογικό σχεδιασμό. Από το 2009 διδάσκει στη Σχολή Αρχιτεκτονικής, Καλών και Εφαρμοσμένων Τεχνών του Πανεπιστημίου Φρέντερικ στη Λευκωσία.
